Why not give Vaughn a chance to run the ball and what about (Worrilow) at LB. -- Bred
DOL: There are three other backs in front of Vaughan. Worrilow is a backup, too.
What role will Jason Snelling play in the running game with SJax injured? --Michael Hong
DOL: He’s expected to split carries with Quizz Rodgers.
Why have the falcons not looked at signing Fullback John Conner. He is a battering ram and I'm thinking he'd do better than some guy off the practice squad. Is he not available? --Jeff
DOL: I don’t know. He’s a physical lead blocker, but may not have the hands the Falcons are looking for from the fullback position.
Why don't the Falcons find another Offensive Coordinator? They have the same plays they have had for 10 years...Boring -- Ron Roberts
DOL: Play calling is popular fan cop out. They have one of the finest coordinator’s in the business. All of the plays are designed to work if executed properly.
With the upcoming opponents (and their respective defenses) before the BYE, will the suddenly impotent rush attack be a huge detriment to the W/L potential of the Falcons? – Marcus
DOL: They’ll have to pay more than lip service to the run against the defensive fronts they’re going to face. Also, teams will start sitting down on the quick passes and all of those screens that are designed to protect the offensive line, which has struggled while pass blocking.
Could you please tell me why running plays especially in short yardage are run up the middle? Why can’t they go either left or right? I’m not an expert it looks like you would have more power when everyone has a head of steam. Thanks --Louis Lovinggood
DOL: They usually try to find the best blocking combination and matchup to run behind in short yardage.
Has there been any thought of bringing back Michael Turner since the Steven Jackson injury? -- DieHard_ATL
DOL: None whatsoever.
How long will it be before you give Jeremy Trueblood a chance at protecting matt ryan since the line has been struggling?" --cornell sims
DOL: With Sam Baker injured, it’s likely that he’ll get his opportunity on Sunday.
Quizz rodgers hasn't shown much in the running game this year. Will jason snelling get the bulk of the running place since it appears he is more productive running the ball?
DOL: I expect Quizz to get the most carries. Snelling will get some too.
Has the team been considering signing richard seymour since all the injuries has happen?
DOL: No. They crossed that bridge over the offseason.
William Moore is a hard hitter. The Falcons are weak at the outside linebacker positions. Have they given any thought to moving him to an outside linebacker position ? Moore gets hurt throughout the season coming from a long distance to make a hit. As a linebacker he would be closer to the line of scrimmage and he should have the speed to cover backs and tight ends. -- Reginald Ford
DOL: He has not been considered for any of the linebacker opening.
Why does the falcons coaching staff go into conservative mode every time they get a big lead over the other teams? You don’t see other teams taking foot off gas and coasting. So many times last year this led to the other teams catching up and making the falcons have to work hard and get lead back. They are already doing the same thing this year. – David
DOL: Maybe they’ve learned their lesson and will keep pressing things if they get up against Miami.
Will we see, new additions at LB, Jamar Chaney and Omar Gaither hit the field on Sunday? – HangNwitCoop
DOL: I doubt it.
Why won't Atlanta give #30 Vaughn a chance to run the ball will Jackson hurt! why not pick up Seymour now to help defense get penetration. – Brian
DOL: Quizz, Snelling and Antone Smith are all in front of Vaughan on the depth chart.
Why do the Falcons stink??? Seriously, we shouldn't but we do... – Larry
DOL: They are 1-1 and rebuilding their offensive line. It’s a work in progress. I wouldn’t say they stink.
For Coach Smith - "Do you ever watch old film from say the Lombardi era for ideas, e.g. for run blocking?" -- Ross Lunsford
DOL: I will pass this question about to Coach smith and have his answer for the next mailbag.
Seems like help is needed everywhere, adjustments have to be made for the next man up, will the young DE's dig down deep & let themselves go to put some pressures to the Dolphin backfield? --- Birdfeathers
DOL: Look for Massaquoi to come on strong. He’s been waiting to get his opportunity. Goodman had a rough outing last week. Profootballfocus.com have him a negative –3.2 rating for his play against the Rams.
Which Falcons position group do you see having the biggest in-season development, Game 1 to Game 16 (and beyond hopefully)? –Marcus
DOL: Probably, the young cornerbacks. Tim Lewis does a great job with them.
When are the Falcons going to get serious about returning punts instead of calling a fair catch? -- Barry
DOL: Harry Douglas is gambling a little bit more that “Fair Catch” Franks gamble last season.
What position does Peria Jerry's brother play for the Dolphins? -- Leon Cunningham
DOL: John Jerry is a guard. They could face each other.
With The beer man out for the season who will take his spot massaquai ? Also how is goodman and maponga coming along in their development should we expect to see them on the field more ? --Thaddeus Winston
DOL: You could see as many as three players – Massaquoi, Joplo Bartu and Malliciah Goodman – attempt to take over Biermann’s role.
How effective will Jacquizz Rodgers be against the Dolphins' defensive line? – Dude
DOL: Without better blocking there’s no reason to expect that he’ll be effective.
Take care! See you all next week!!!
A: Doug -- I don't think so. He's pretty far down the depth chart.
Q: Will we ever get to see Josh Vaughan run with the ball in this regular season. He was so explosive and exciting during pre-season, I for one would like to see how he does in a regular season game. --Doug Farmer
John -- You're welcome. I don't know. Thought Baker was ready for a big season. Yeah, I think they have to run SJ on a bunch of draws to slow down the rush. Toss Screen some screens and Bradie looks rugged and tough.
Ilya -- Thank you. You are too kind. We'll do it again next week.
John -- Yes, they are real uptight. Rams are an upstart and beat San Fran last year. Kind of testy almost.
George Henry from AP said he saw Babs at practice, too.
Ilya -- He's made 84 starts, so he's tested.
John_Johnson -- Oh, yes. They have to get Bradford off his mark My friends at ProFootballFocus.com shared this stat with us: " Sam Bradford had a 91.3% completion rate last week when unpressured. When pressured, it plummeted to 40%."
ATLJBO -- Was thinking Shann at Free and DeCoud on Cook. I don't like Tru on the TE. Cook's 6-5 or so and had major leaping ability. Saw him take North Gwinnitt deep into the state basketball tournament.
Matt -- You're welcome. There is some bad information out there on Trueblood as far as holding and sacks allowed.
Srikar -- Massaquoi played 12 snaps against the Saints. Goodman played five snaps. So they are top two ends in the rotation. Maponga was inactive.
Dude -- Coach Smith said he's going to play.
