Nope, Freddie Falcon is out the door.
He should have let them get beat up, but it is really a crime releasing a old DE with little left in the tank? Was a business decision. Had to pay the QB.
10 yards from Super Bowl. Given the team's history, getting to the playoffs that many times is pretty good for a first-time General Manager and two-time executive of the year.
SPC GREEN -- "With Samuel struggling with injury and McClain not living up to hype; can we expect to see Alford with more snaps?
Any indicators showing Howard getting playing time on defense or is he just another body?"
LEDBETTER – Alford has been getting more snaps. He’s playing on the right side when they go to nickel. McClain has been benched. He’s been playing on special teams. He’s insurance while they developed the young LBs Worrilow and Bartu.
Not really. Seattle receivers are weak. Linebackers must tackle Marshawn and Wilson for Falcons to win.
They've been to the playoffs in 4 of past 5 years. GMs never bat 1,000 percent. There are going to be some misses. You're over reacting.
BOBBY PARHAM -- Dear Mr. Ledbetter do you feel that the Falcons season is over for this year and do have any suggestions.
LEDBETTER – Never say never. There’s a lot of football to be played. If they keep losing, they can start developing folks for the future.
Not certain. Winningest Coach in team history is in the clear.
MYRON FORD -- Can the Falcons make the play offs even if they win out.
LEDBETTER – 10-6 would likely put them in the playoffs.
JOHNNY G -- Will Roddy's return be the difference the rest of the season?
LEDBETTER – No, unleash he’s going to block, play defensive end and linebacker.
NEXT YEAR’S HOPE -- We know this season is already over in terms of the playoffs, but I have concerns about Matt Ryan. In past years he could put the ball in spots for the more experienced receivers and they would come down with it. This year these same throws are resulting into interceptions because the receiver are not getting any separation. Do you think this may result into a carryover into next year's season if he continues this years trend? Next season can't get here soon enough.
LEDBETTER – It’s not over. They still have like a 3 percent chance of making the playoffs. Matt Ryan is being force to throw sooner than necessary because of the pass protection. With more time, the receiver could separate and he’s shown that he can hit them. The blocking must improve.
JAY -- DLed is it possible, ( I know anything is possible) but do the team ( and you) think it is possible that they can run off 8 wins?
LEDBETTER— Anything is possible. But the evidence suggest they are not just going to flip on a switch and be able to block.
ASIF -- "What does the team have to say about its red zone troubles?
Fox said Atlanta is second in the league in red zone possessions, yet 31st in converting those possessions into touchdowns. (It's cost them games against New Orleans and New England already.)"
LEDBETTER – They are going to get them “fixed.”
JSS -- Has the lockdown on information intensified or has the reality set in and they are in deflection mode (injuries, lack of player execution, etc...)?"
LEDBETTER – What lockdown of information? There’s actually been more information since we got banned form practice.
JIMMY TBONE -- Is it possible that when healthy Sam Baker is not the stiff that many Falcons fans think he is? That being said, it's clear that the OL is our biggest weakness and must be addressed. Do you think the Birds will draft an OL with their 1st pick and move Baker to RT next year?
LEDBETTER – Baker has played well when healthy. I don’t see him getting moved to RT. They seem to think that Lamar Holmes is developing and will be OK over the long haul. Too early for draft evals.
Not sure. Ryan is a passing QB.
Bartu plays outside in the 3-4 and inside in the nickel.
Roddy White talked. He will be a game time decision. I'll have the video and quotes posted on AJC.Com later today.
Got to go. Coach Smith is about to talk about Roddy. Will be back right before 1 p.m. to close up.
BRAD -- I understand that the typical formula is to run to set up the pass, but since we are challenged in the run game, why does Koetter not devise a pass to set up the run strategy? I mean, the screen pass is the standard antidote for a pass rush, why not come out throwing screens and other short passes. moving side to side, and then run and take an occasional shot down field?
LEDBETTER – Everyone is jumping on those screens. But he’ll have to get creative.
Paul Sawicki -- "Do you feel there is any possibility that the Falcons could be pull off a run like the Washington Redskins of 2012? I mean they were 3-6 and then went 7-0....
Will the falcons get healthy and hot at the right time?"
LEDBETTER – Never say never, but the schedule looks mighty tough. They need this one and the Seattle one next week to get it rolling.
Once you pay the quarterback, you have to fine cheap talent. Bill Polian did it for years in Indy. That's what they are trying to do here in the salary cap era.
The line, the backs, the tight ends and the wide receivers got their tails kick according to Smitty and Koetter.
Nope. There won't be too much room. They'll have to find more cheap talent.
